Do your headlights turn off by themselves? And later turn back on and repeat? Or just stay off? This is a very common failure. Internal failure in the light control module, also known as light box or LCM , can create an internal electrical short causing your lights to work only sometimes or only when you hold back the turn signal lever to use the bright lights.
The original LCM installed in these cars had a major problem. The LCM fails over time due to a bad circuit that makes the headlights not functional which can be a real hazard at night or in rain .

Until Very recently Ford still sold both designs of this LCM. They sold the old defective design, and the new improved design. Many companies and dealers are still selling the old design because it is cheaper and they can make more profit. If you get the old design you will just have the same problem again. We only sell the new design LCM.

How to Identify the LCM module in your vehicle: There are several similar looking boxes under your dash. The LCM module is above the gas pedal and will have a ford number that is the sets of characters. If the middle set of Characters is 13C788 then you have found the LCM module. The number will look something like this XXXX-13C788-XX.

Note: The number on your old LCM will not match the one we send you. We are sending you the newest updated genuine Ford version, with the newest part number. Each time it is revised the part number changes, so the part number you receive form us may be nothing like the original.
Unfortunately since some people try to use these as test parts to diagnose a problem on their car, we will be unable to accept returns for a refund on this item (normal warranty still applies) on this part so be sure this is what you need before ordering.
Installation instructions:
1) Remove the plastic panel under the dash to gain access; you'll find two plastic retainers that just pull out and a metal clip toward the firewall that holds the back side of the panel in place.
2) If you have adjustable gas/brake pedals, remove the two retaining nuts that hold the gas pedal/motor assembly to the floor (mine took a 13mm socket. This will allow just enough movement to slip the LCM out of its bracket.
3) There is very little extra wiggle room for the wiring harness in this area, so try and disconnect the three plugs from the back of the ECM before moving it very far. Once the plugs are removed it should slip out fairly easily
